Nice looking interface. I'm sure it's purely coincidence that it looks almost exactly like Screenflow Pro...

It's pretty clearly a ripoff of ScreenFlow from the looks of the user interface...

Hehe - gents you've been saying you are 'reviewing Snagit for Mac' for about 2 years! It's OK to say no...
Good news on this release - thanks for all the work. At this price does it mean the feature set is more limited that the windows version?

Betsy, thanks for the info...but it would be nice to see some additional details about the feature set (compared to the Win version).
I've signed up for mailings and I look forward to hearing news about Camtastic for Mac over the next few weeks.

SOOOOO happy.
You know, I have a PC at home for three reasons:
1: Camtasia.
2: Snagit.
3: well another app.
New list:
1: Snagit for Mac

I am still amazed at the number of people who want a version of snagit for the MAC. I guess if enough of us keep after them they may say YES.... Any way, would love to hear comments about the comparison of MAC and Windows versions. Maybe a video created by Cantasia for the MAC would be nice.
Go Snagit....

Will the new version of Camtasia for Mac work with Snow Leopard when it comes out in September?
Posted by Mike | August 8, 2009 11:20 AM
Posted on August 8, 2009 11:20
How does this compare to Snow Leopard and QuickTime X's proposed screen recording?
And I already have iMovie and Final Cut pro so I could care less about the editing inside Camtasia.
I love Camtasia, been using it on my PC for years, I'm just curious how it will fit in when Snow Leopard arrives this fall.

Thanks for all the comments and questions!
@ Thomas Berglund: we'll be posting more info, screenshots, videos in the coming weeks.
@ Len Charnoff: it will require an Intel chipset.
@ Evan. You'll find similarities with all video editors, like a clip bin, preview window, timeline. That being said, you'll see more of the UI components and their flexibility soon.
@ Michael GT. We've built Camtasia for mac based on years of Mac focus group, customer visits, beta group feedback, surveys, multiple rounds of user testing, etc. We've built this app specific to their needs. To date, quizzing and scorm were not high on their list. The great thing about getting Camtasia for mac to the general public, is now we can expand that conversation with more customers to find out how globally popular various feature requests are.
@ Mike: Camtasia for Mac will support Snow Leopard.
@ Homey: Great question. We'll try to cover it in a subsequent screencast.

I have 2 lisences for Camtasia on PC. Also one for SnagIt. - Would I be able to use one of the Camtasia licenses for PC on a Mac (with the new Camtasia for Mac) ?
Else I will just continue to use ScreenFlow I guess
Please...

I'm assuming this will have a tie-in to Screencast.com. Is this assumption accurate?
Will there be a trial version?
Thanks for bringing this to the Mac market.

Many, many thanks for brining this superior program to the Mac. Well done!
I'll echo the request for SnagIt for Mac...we've been waiting for so long. I've been using a combo of Voila and Skitch to get the same results but SnagIt can do all of that and more. I'd truly love to dump them. Please hurry.
Oh, and keep up the excellent work!

Looking forward to this I've been stuck with using Screenflow for ages and while it looks nice thats where the fun stops, cant wait for camtasia for the mac!
Does it natively use the ensharpen codec? I've been exporting using this for editing in FCP/ Premiere and After Effects and its a great codec.
I suppose when its GA we can start asking for new features, FCP & compressor integration etc :-) only kidding, you'll no doubt deserve a break

Bring us SnagIt for mac, there is nothing as complete on the Mac side. With any tool available, there is some important feature missing. Either no direct copy to clipboard or no direct printing (JING).

I'd echo the question on licensing, I literally just got a license of Camtasia in the past couple months, and would much prefer not to use it on my "other" laptop (which I do out of necessity in this case). Transferability would rock.

Cool, looking forward to checking it out. I just hope you've trumped what ScreenFlow has done because that has become my screen capture of choice over the last year.

It's been 5 days since I asked this question, and I'd rather would like to know the answer :-)
So I'll just repeat myself: Will it be possible to transfer a Camtasia license from the PC-world to Mac?

So happy to hear this! I've been teaching a multimedia development course with Camtasia as one of the components for the past few years and I'm starting to get more and more Mac users taking the class. Now everybody can experience the awesomeness that is Camtasia.

@dtw56 - I'll post the system requirements shortly. Camtasia for Mac supports Mac OS X 10.5.6 or later, including Snow Leopard. It will require the Intel chipset. @preben - Sorry for the delayed response. We'll be going over details like this over the next few weeks as we move toward launch.

What separates This from ScreenFlow Pro, besides costing more? I am not a troll, just curious. It looks like ScreenFlow Pro, seems to have same functionality, but a higher price. What are you guys adding to the feature set to warrant an extra $50?

As a FCP 7 user who also uses ScreenFlow, I'm looking forward to see what this adds to the mix.
Also, add me to the list of votes for Snagit for Mac! I use it at work on a PC and love it. I use LittleSnapper, Voila, and Skitch on the Mac, and each of them have pieces of Snagit, but it's the complete package.

For those of you looking for a Snagit for mac you should look at Voila. I find it very nice for that type of stuff!

Posted on August 14, 2009 23:06
That was my thought too, how does the feature set compare to the Windows version?
Regarding Snagit for Mac: Voila is the closest I've seen to Snagit for Windows, but it's current state of publishing screen snaps is horrible.

Outstanding effort chaps and it looks good. Hope your server is up to the demand come the 25th. There will be many folks jumping on this offer, especailly if it has all the capability of the windows version.
Please sell us short guys. We've waited a long time for this and Mac purchase amongst trainers is increasing at the expense of Windows, you are selling into an expanding market, don't blow it now.
PS just let me add my voice to the SNAGIT cry....one that arrives my move to "Brightside" will be complete and I can switch off VM Fusion.

===== Camtasia Studio 7 For The Win =====
I hope the Windows version will be getting an update like this soon (v7.0). The current interface for Camtasia Studio 6 is a bit quirky, but this Mac UI just looks great.

Can I assume this will include the newer more efficient h.264 codec for Flash export, as introduced with Camtasia 6?
Because it would be painfully ironic if it didn't.

Would I be the millionth person to request Snagit ;) for the Mac. I use Jing, but that does not compare with the functionality of Snagit. I have a windows licence for it, but ditched my Windows for Mac. So have not used it for over a year.
I am going to check out Screenflow before deciding on Camtasia, but this release is also good news.
Keep up with these great products.

Just two quick question regarding Camtasia on Mac (which is great news BTW):
Why does it costs half of the Windows Version ? Are the features the same on the two plateforms ?
and last but not least:
Does the mac version support external professional audio hardware (using ASIO on windows) like the Digidesign M-boxes (and unlike the win version) ?
