Snagit on Mac Gets Microsoft Office Outputs

Posted on Monday April 30, 2012

A couple months back, we introduced buttons for sharing directly to social media channels. Today we bring you Microsoft Office® outputs for Snagit on Mac! You can now send your images directly from Snagit to Microsoft Word®, Excel®, and PowerPoint® on Mac. These outputs work with both Snagit versions 1 and 2.

To use the outputs:

  1. Download the Office outputs here. Be sure to click the Mac Outputs tab (see screenshot below).
  2. Once downloaded, double-click each output to install it.
  3. Relaunch Snagit if prompted. You can now send your images to Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.

Have feedback on these outputs or want to suggest another sharing destination? Make your voice heard in our feedback forum!

Post to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Evernote from Snagit!

Posted on Tuesday March 6, 2012

Snagit has been pretty cozy with a lot of different sharing destinations...last week we added four new, often-requested outputs. Once you install them, you'll see buttons inside Snagit to upload images and videos directly to Evernote, Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube!

All of us at TechSmith are super excited to have these new sharing options in our Snagit toolbar and hope you will be, too.

The YouTube output is installed automagically when you upgrade to Snagit 11 or 2. The buttons for Facebook, Twitter, and Evernote must be installed manually. But some of them work on older versions of Snagit, in case you haven't gotten around to upgrading to the latest and greatest. ;)

On Windows, you can use the outputs in Snagit 9, 10, or 11 (video sharing is limited to version 11). On Mac, you can use the Evernote output with version 1 but will need version 2 for the others.

Installing the Outputs

To install, just click the links below. A dialog will appear; choose to run or open the file with Snagit. Then you will see the buttons appear among your share options inside Snagit.

Win output Mac output
Win output Mac output
Win output Mac output

For Snagit on Windows, we also provide capture profiles for a streamlined capture-share workflow. You will still need to install the output but then you can add the capture profile. Outputs, profiles, and more goodies are found on the Snagit accessories page.

Using the Outputs

I won't give a complete, step-by-step walkthrough of each output here, but the gist is...

Once you've captured content, click the button for the share destination you have in mind. The first time you use a button, you'll need to log in and authorize Snagit to post on your behalf.

Each time you use the Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube button, you're prompted to add a description, message, or other necessaries. YouTube gives you an option to make the video public, private, or unlisted.

Proceed through the steps and voila! the content is posted to your social channel or notebook!

If you run into any issues with the outputs, our support team can help you get it fixed.

And while you're sharing, be sure to share your best stuff with us...Snagit is on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, too!

A Snagit Milestone - Join us for The Forge, November 10 at 2pm EST

Posted on Monday November 7, 2011

snagit_20.png

Think back to 1991. Remember where you were? What were you doing? What did your hair look like (I was rocking some fantastic 90's hair! Hot rollers and hair spray, baby!)?

Remember what tech was like back in 1991? 6 pound 'laptops'. Apple introduced the PowerBook laptop. Remember Compuserve and BBS? Microsoft Releases MS Dos 5.0 and Windows 3.1. You could also run OS/2 and the first version of Linux was released. A 486 PC computer was selling for over $7,000! Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect, Harvard Graphics were popular pieces of software. Nintendo released the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. And, Tim Berners-Lee from CERN turned on the Web!

And, something else happened... Snagit was released in 1991. Yes, Snagit! Snagit turns 20 years old this year! Can you believe that? Snagit has been built on your feedback. And, thanks to your support, Snagit is still going strong after 20 years. You can see Snagit's history here

Please join us in celebrating the first 20 years of Snagit live on The Forge this Thursday at 2pm EST. Tune in on the Visual Lounge Blog here. You might have to refresh the page.

Need a reminder? Download a calendar invite for Outlook here (.msg). We'd love for you to watch live and join us in the chat room. We'd be happy to answer your questions and comments. Can't join us live? We'll record it and post for everyone to watch shortly after the show wraps up.

Looking for more tech history in 1991? Zdnet has a great article about the world of Tech in 1991 here.

What will you do to celebrate?

High Tech Halloween Pumpkin Carving

Posted on Saturday October 29, 2011

pumpkin techsmith.jpg

Fall is my favorite time of year. I love pumpkins! We always have fun at TechSmith for Halloween. TechSmithies get dressed up, we carve pumpkins and people bring their children in for a Halloween parade and trick-or-treating. And this year is no different... except I'm overseas for BarCamp London 9. So, I missed out on the festivities at home (but I'm very happy to be in London).

I was walking around London yesterday trying to fight jetlag. I saw quite a few pumpkins and fall decorations out and that got me thinking about pumpkin carving. A few years ago, I carved a pumpkin with the Visual Lounge blog logo.

Being a nerd, I used Snagit to help with my stencil! I thought I'd share with you how I created my stencil. Take your pumpkin carving design to the next level with some high tech help from Snagit.

Here are the steps I took to create my stencil:

  • Capture logo or image with Snagit
  • On the PC: Open screenshot in Snagit's Editor, click the Image tab > Canvas group > Resize tool > Resize Image option
  • On the Mac: After capturing your image, select from Snagit's menu Edit > Resize.
  • Print your screenshot
  • Tape your screenshot to your pumpkin and carve away!
  • You can see some pics from past TechSmith Halloween celebrations here or check out the slideshow below. I'll have to get some pics from this year to share with you. Good luck with your pumpkin carving! I'd love to see what you create! Share some links with me!

Get Ready for Lion: Update your Camtasia, Jing, & Snagit

Posted on Thursday July 7, 2011

Lion is coming

Our superstar development teams have updated Camtasia, Jing, and Snagit to work on the soon-to-be-released Apple OS X 10.7 (aka "Lion"). Why is this necessary? Because there are serious incompatibilities between Lion and Camtasia, Jing, Camtasia Relay, and, to a lesser degree, Snagit. (More info...)

You can download these free maintenance releases now--they will work on your current operating system AND on Lion when it's released.

Something amiss? Get help from our support team--they're friendly, fast, and free!

Have questions? Give us a shout at our Q&A site or on Twitter.

SXSW and the Rockstache

Posted on Sunday March 13, 2011

"A man without a mustache is like a cup of tea without sugar" ~ English Proverb

rockstache.png

The TechSmith crew has descended on Austin, Texas this week for South by Southwest Interactive (SXSW). SXSW is like spring break for geeks or geek family reunion!

TechSmithies are attending sessions, meeting up with users and we have a booth on the tradeshow floor (booth 340). If you're attending the conferece, I'd love to meet-up - drop me a line (517.410.0030 or email.)!

We'll have some fun swag for our booth visitors... Fake mustaches! Who doesn't need a fake mustache? If you're at the show, stop by, pick one up, take your pic around town, and post it! Use the hashtag #rockstache so we can find them. That's the Michigan State Alumni Association (MSUAA) (my alma mater!) in the photo rocking out the rockstaches last night! MSUAA has great coverage of SXSW here.

We also have some fun free digital swag for our Snagit users. We have some Rockstache Mustache Snagit Stamps! You can view what they look like here.

Ready to add some mustaches to your Snagit captures?

  • First, download the zip file here. Then unzip the file. If you're on a PC, here's how. On a Mac, just double click the zip file.
  • After you've downloaded and unzipped the file, for Snagit on the PC, here is a tutorial on how to install and use stamps (see in the video around the 2:15 marker).
  • For Snagit for the Mac, you can unzip the file and drag the png mustache file to Snagit's tray and then combine it with your screencapture to use. Here's a quick Jing showing you how.

I am posting pics from SXSW here. I can't wait to see what you create with your Snagit mustache stamps! Be sure to tag your screencaps with #rockstache so we can find them.

It's Official - Snagit on Mac is Released!

Posted on Tuesday November 9, 2010

snagit mac release.png

Guess what the biggest feature request is for Snagit? For years, the number one feature request has been to bring Snagit to the Mac platform.

Today I'm happy to announce that this feature request has been fulfilled! Please help us celebrate the release of Snagit on Mac today!

Snagit was built from the ground up just for Mac users. We had input from over 100,000 beta testers that helped us build it.

Snagit on Mac has lots of great features and functionality, including:

  • Capture: Snagit allows users to capture any image from their screen at the click of a button or hotkey, including scrolling web pages, windows, images and regions or areas of the screen.
  • Snagit Editor: Edit captures with callouts, arrows, lines and numerous other finishing touches. Users can manage recent captures in an image tray and drag multiple images from the tray to the canvas to combine them. All screen captures are automatically saved, allowing users to grab multiple images, and work on them later.
  • Share: Easily share captures by saving in a range of popular image formats or exporting with a single click to emails, FTP sites or to Screencast.com, TechSmith's own hosting site.
  • Auto-scrolling capture: Capture images below what is visible on the screen, for example when capturing a lengthy web page.
  • Drag-and-Drop: Snagit on Mac supports the Mac standard drag-and-drop function to popular applications like iWorks, Microsoft Office and more.

You can learn more about the new release of Snagit on Mac here.

Already own a license of Snagit on the PC? If you own Snagit v10, you're also entitled to a free copy of Snagit on Mac. If you're a new user, you pay just one price for a license of Snagit on Windows and Mac ($49.95). If you have an older version of Snagit on the PC, you can upgrade a single user license to Snagit v10 and get Snagit on Mac for only $24.95. More users or questions? Contact sales.

Ready to try out Snagit for Mac? Download the 30 day, fully functional eval here.

And, TechSmith extends a huge thank you to our 100,000 beta testers! Our products are better because of you! Please continue to send us feedback for future releases.

What do you think of the new release of Snagit on the Mac?

Meet Paul Middlin - Snagit for Mac Lead Developer

Posted on Monday December 21, 2009

Our videographer, Kelly Rush, and I have been wandering the halls at TechSmith to show you what goes on behind the scenes at TechSmith and the people that are making the software that you use.

Kelly and I stopped in to see Paul Middlin, our Lead Developer for Snagit for Mac. He's been at TechSmith for several years and has held a variety of roles.

Paul shared with us his history at TechSmith, what he's been up to as the lead developer on Snagit for Mac, what a typical day is like for him, and even about the cheese-making class we had at TechSmith (yes, after hours several of us got together and learned how to make cheese! You can see some pics here!) ...

The video runs just under 3:30 minutes.

Hope you enjoyed the video! Do you have any questions you'd like me to ask around TechSmith? Let Kelly and I be your roving reporters!

Welcome Snagit for Mac Beta - Try It!

Posted on Tuesday December 15, 2009

I've been a Mac user at home for a long time and recently made the switch at work when we released Camtasia for Mac. One of the things I missed on the Mac was Snagit. Sure, sure, there's the built in screencapture just as there's the printscreen button on the PC, but I need more options for blogging, reporting and other tasks. After using Snagit nearly every day for the past 10 years, I can't do my job or other tasks without it.

I'm happy to announce that the wait is over... TechSmith has a public beta for Snagit for Mac available to you right now. You can find more information about the Snagit for Mac the beta here.

We want to make sure we're developing products that work for you. Help us build a Snagit for Mac that you want. So, please provide feedback about features and functionality as well as report bugs here.

Keep in mind that this is a beta version of Snagit for Mac. It is not the final build of Snagit for Mac, but we are far enough along in our development cycle to share it with you. Since it is beta, every feature may not work perfectly. There will still be some time to incorporate some feature feedback from this public beta into the final release. And, your feature suggestions gathered during this public beta will influence future releases of the software. Your feedback is important at every stage.

We will not be offering individual technical support for the Snagit for Mac beta. However, we will be providing regular updates about new builds, common issues and problems beta users are facing on a regular basis here on the Visual Lounge Blog. And you can exchange ideas with other customers using the beta here. Snagit for Mac is available in English only right now, but it available to users worldwide.

Check out this brief overview screencast about Snagit for Mac.

Thanks for kicking the tires on the Snagit for Mac beta! We look forward to your feedback and working with you on this new release! Our products are better because of you!

What do you think?
