Be TechSmith's Guest at StackOverflow DevDays or Defrag
Posted on Wednesday October 14, 2009 by Betsy Weber

I love loading up the car and heading out for a roadtrip! It's a good time to turn of the technology (expect for GPS!), clear my mind, and think creatively. And, once I reach my destination, I love meeting with our users, attending events, and learning about a new city and culture.
I have a few extra tickets for two upcoming events that you can enter a drawing to win!
The first conference I have a ticket to share with one lucky reader is the StackOverflow DevDays in Toronto on October 23. You can find out details on the event here. I'm attending this event with TechSmith's lead developer of Snagit for the Mac, Paul Middlin. If you'd like to meet up in Toronto, please let me know! Email, text or call me (+1.517.410.0030)
In November, we're heading to the Degrag 2009 conference in Denver, Colorado. I have one conference pass to give away.
To enter the drawing to win one of the free conference passes, please leave a comment on this blog post by 5:00pm EST, Friday, October 16. Please include:
- A topic or idea you would like to me cover in a blog post on The Visual Lounge blog
- Which conference you would like to attend - StackOverflow DevDays, Toronto or the Defrag Conference

Topic would be on screencasting tips for demos/presentations.

I would like to see more of how people use TechSmith products. In order to promote this, do a giveaway of TechSmith products, flip video camcorders, microphones and etc. My mother uses Snagit for the photos she takes of their travels all over the world. With Snagit editor, she applies modifications to multiple photos with the batch processing mode. She does resizing of her photos to a smaller size so uploading to her Flickr account is quicker.
I would like to attend the Defrag Conference in Denver, CO.

Betsy,
How about asking your customers to send you two minute videos on why they like a particular TechSmith product?
Then launch a separate website with those videos that can be filtered by product. Might help someone deciding whether or not on buying the product.
I am interested in attending the Defrag conference.

I'd like to see a real case study of using Snagit and/or Camtasia while developing a familiar product. I'd like to see descriptions of the person that uses the software, what exactly they use it for, how they communicate with the product - real world stuff.
Obviously I'm biased towards software. So the ideal post for me would start with a UX case study. Starting with research and Snagging images and clips and putting them into a Keynote concept deck, a few mockups, then maybe a Camtasia demo reel to pass out. Maybe some user testing of early demos, recording with Camtasia, with usability reviews by the team of the recorded reel. Development process, snagging images of observed defects and popping them into the bug report. Etc.
The familiar product is particularly compelling. Seeing all of this while putting together, say, a tweetdeck update or a stackoverflow new feature gives it teeth.
Oh yeah, I want to go to StackOverflow DevDays. But I don't have a Passport. Alas!
