We're busy working behind the scenes at TechSmith gearing up for the launch of Camtasia for Mac later this month! We're excited and hope you are too!
In the interim, I thought you might be curious about what kind of videos you'll be able to easily make with Camtasia for Mac. So, roll out the red carpet, grab some popcorn, and get comfortable... check out a screencast, Troy Stein, recently made using Camtasia for Mac.
Stay tuned... I'll be sharing more information and additional screencasts as we count down to the release of Camtasia for Mac on August 25!

Looks great - I can't wait for the release to check Camtasia for Mac out! I'm interested to see how it compares to the current standard on the Mac, ScreenFlow.
Question though: why does the Audi suddenly shrink an inch or two at the 27 second mark (and then re-expand at the 34 second mark)?
Was this just an editing gaffe, or did the rendering somehow cause this? Curious.

@ equixotic. Thanks for the compliment!
I didn't see any shrinking of the audi image during the times you posted. FWIW, here's a jing of what I see: http://screencast.com/t/3w65GPe7rUw

Looks nice. Looking forward to buy it and start using it right away.
I use SnapZ pro X right now and I have been waiting for your mac version to come out for quite awhile. Can I do a pre purchase now?

@ equixotic... Wow. Mia culpa. You are one very good eye for pixels.
You actually did catch an edit which I did: At about 27 seconds into the the recording, I left my mouse over the image of the car and the browser gave me a mouseover that looked weird. Oddly, the overlay stayed there for about 5 seconds. So I exported the frame, just before the overlay and put that image on top of the video for about 5 seconds.
Here's Jing of the project and how it happened:

Anything you can share about how Camtasia/mac will handle screen scaling, zooming, etc? (The achilles heel of some of your competitors...)

This looks really great, but it's not fair!
You've got me hooked on the PC with Camtasia Studio 6, so Camtasia will cost way more than your $99.00 introductory price! I mean, I'm going to have to upgrade my Mac mini to an Intel based Mac; & my iBook G4 to an Intel based MacBook!
Oh my, it sounds like a bunch of fun!
What about Snagit on the Mac?
Cheers, Rich

WOW, it looks great. Can't wait to use it. I love Camtasia on the PC, and I just can't get comfortable with the Mac screencast apps (and I own several).
Thank you so much for this -- and please port SnagIt over too. :-)

This looks awesome, the big question is how does it compare to Screenflow, which is pretty rocking, and does it have the video in video like they do?
Being able to have your live video on top of the screen capture, is such a great tool...I hope you have that built it...
Would love to know, and am very excited about the release!
Thanks,
Scott

FINALLY This looks really great BUT where is SNAGIT? no snagit?
I've been using camtasia since 3 and LOVE it with snagit. Company have to give us some special discount for MAC version not for new users but old users like me have to get some profit over new users
Thank you so much for this -- and please do same thing SnagIt too. :-)

I use Screenflow at the moment. The image quality is amazing. It drops the ball on recording audio from external audio devices which is critical to me. I hope you have tested recording audio from an iSight and from ProTools, Reason or Logic Pro at the same time.
I'm also concerned that this is Camtasia and not Camtasia Studio - what is the difference ?

Hey Troy, great job showing off the editing snafu in Jing. Very helpful - and nice to know someone is watching the feedback and actually *cares* about it enough to respond in such a detailed way. :)
11 days to Camtasia for Mac...can't wait!

Hi Troy
Will the the Mac version have the interactive flash video production. The feature that allows you to include multichoice and short answer questions into the clips? Please let us know (especially me!) because I was just about to by a new PC to run Camtasia Studio 6 because I was getting very tired of waiting for the Mac version.
Just publish a features list - Camtasia Studio 6 vs Camtasia Mac - that would be nice for all your loyal followers!
I am giving a talk to about 200 university lecturers/professors this monday showing them video edit software (and 50% are mac users) Would be nice to have this info.
Thank you
Fletch

I will echo Warhol and say it's about time!
But, when will you answer all of the questions posed by previous posters? They weren't rhetorical questions, they were asked by people who want to buy your product!
Help us buy!

I am a lecturer and ScreenFlow user at the moment, it does a wonderful job at providing me with a professional screencasting solution. Many of my Mac colleagues are in the same position. The video and audio quality offered by ScreenFlow is the best we have experienced having used both Jing and Camtasia in the past. This coupled with ScreenFlow's ease of use means Camtasia is going to have to be rather special for any of us to change.
I am excited, don't get me wrong - any advancement or new product in the field of e-learning is of interest. However I have concerns, firstly as someone has already mentioned, is this a new form of the software? Camtasia for Mac rather than Camtasia Studio for Mac? Are we going to get the complete suite of tools available to PC users in Camtasia Studio 6? If not I see nothing here that I cannot already achieve as good or better with ScreenFlow.

===== Camtasia Studio 7 For The Win =====
I will probably buy Camtasia:Mac for my Mac machine, but I'll still be doing videos on Win7 too, so I hope the Windows version will be getting an update like this soon (v7.0).
The current interface for Camtasia Studio 6 is a bit quirky, but this Mac UI just looks great. And I'm all praise for companies whose products provide a consistent user experience across their offerings as well as platforms. Adobe fails miserably at this, unfortunately (more-so cross-app than cross-platform, but I digress).

This is GREAT NEWS! I've been waiting for years, constantly checking on your site.
Will there be a demo version? I'd like to compare and contrast between Camtasia & Screenflow before I make my decision to buy, and of course stop using SnapzPro. (and by chance if SnapzPro is reading this, you guys did this to yourselves, IMHO).

Troy,
Excellent job. I like the way you made the video look, it looked great at FullScreen Mode too. No blurriness or anything. I am assuming which I could be wrong you used PIP in this one to get the trailer movies playing with the Poster of movie on the same image. Maybe you could share how you put this one together and the settings you used that will work for Mac and PC. That would be great. Also, a feature list for the Mac would be nice. Thanks Troy.

Thanks a bunch for the feedback and questions!
@ Steve. Sorry, no pre-purchase. :) And don't stay up late on the 24th. :) it will be on sale on the 25th around 10 EST, I believe.
@ Noel. Next week you'll see some of the quickstart videos which should explain zooming.
@ John. We've done plenty of testing with iSight camera and audio. We've not made an explicit effort to test it w/ ProTools, Logic, etc. Let us know how it goes on the 25th.
@ Warhol and Jerry Kidd. I promise that all questions will be answered on the 25th. We've prepared and are coordinating all our web pages, videos, FAQs, etc to be available on that day.
@ Paul. On the 25th, we'll make a specific comparisons between Camtasia:mac and Camtasia Studio. They've both been developed to meet the unique needs of their target audiences.
@ Scott. We tried making one UI which worked well for both mac and windows users. We couldn't make it work well enough for both. So we scrapped the idea -- went back to the drawing boards and made one that workw really well and is intuitive for Mac users.
@ Larry. As a rule, we don't compare ourselves to other software applications. Never have. We're just not experts on other's software.
@ Fred. There is no "PiP track". You can put anything on any track. Super flexible and makes for quick work and allows for some good creativity.
Keep the questions coming!
Troy
PS. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support!

Hi, Troy! Can't wait for the release! :) I'd like to know, what microphone were you using for this screencast?
Posted by Albert M | August 16, 2009 2:23 AM
Posted on August 16, 2009 02:23
@ Albert. I was using a Shure Beta 58a microphone, which I have had for years. http://tinyurl.com/ysbrj4 Great studio mic at a decent price (~$150 USD). When I switched over to the Mac I had to get a different cable for it (XLR to USB) since Mac's require powered Mics.
Knowing that we were going to be offering Mac software, we did a review of various mic's recently. http://visuallounge.techsmith.com/2009/04/microphone_round-up.html
We liked the AT 2020 from Audio Technica well enough that we put it in our store. Also for ~$150.

Hello,
I am new to elearning. I need to have a flash version to upload to my LMS. I'd like to know if Camtasia for Mac will do that.
BTW, I also noticed what I think is an error at the end of your video. You said a movie grossed 585 thousand dollars. I think it was millions. I make speaking errors like that when I've tried sample recordings with screenflow or just narrating my powerpoints or keynotes. Can I edit that out with Camtasia? Will you have detailed user instructions for novices like me - who need to learn to use it fast?
I am a nursing instructor trying to do narrated lectures - with some built in patho animations. Especially curious about the swf or flv because of size limitations.
Thank you so much.
