We Are All Family - Need Some Support from the Snagit Community
Posted on Wednesday December 10, 2008 by Betsy Weber

I have some bad and good news to share. The bad news? Tony Dunckel, the Snagit Product Manager, lost his entire home to a fire last weekend. The good news? Everyone in his family made it out safely. Few of us will ever have to deal with a catastrophic loss like this and he's just at the beginning of the recovery process.
At TechSmith, coworkers are more like family than just other associates. And, the same goes for you. The Snagit community is more like family to us than a bunch of software users. That makes it particularly difficult when things like this happen.
I'm sure Tony and his family could use some kind words of support and encouragement. So, please drop them a comment below. I'd appreciate it and I'm sure they would too.
Thank you for being a part of our family.

Too bad, but focus on the good news: You all got out safely!
Things are replaceable, but family isn't.
Be happy there are a lot of people -colleagues, community- who care.
Wishing you all the best from the Netherlands!

Tony...
Very sorry about your home - that's horrible but at least everyone is safe (if you had pets, I hope they made it out as well!)

My thoughts go out to you and your family. Concentrate on the fact you will be all together for xmas. What doesn't destroy you makes you stronger. Here's to growing stronger through adversity. Take care, and hug your family a little longer.

OK, so this sucks, and is an unavoidable life-changing event. But it it up to you whether the change is for the better or worse. The challenge is to treat this as an opportunity to rebuild, restart and refresh your family's life. Ask friends and family to send you photos of shared events that you may have lost to rebuild your stock. And keep an eye out for family members who may need more assurance that things will work out OK. Share hugs generously and frequently. Be positive about the future and thankful you'll face it together. My thoughts are with you. (Snagit user)

I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm glad Tony & his family are alright. Please let the community know what to do to help i.e. set up a donation or fund to help with the rebuilding process.
Thanks,
Jane

I am sorry to hear about Tony's home fire. I wish the entire Dunckel family the strength and energy to work through it and realize the most important thing is they are all here and not injured or worse. They are in our thoughts and prayers.
I came close 2 weeks ago with a gas fireplace explosion but am still recovering physically and emotionally and working on getting the basement rebuilt.

Hurricane Katrina taught me many lessons, the most important of which is that people are what is really irreplaceable.
Please make sure that if any sort of fund gets set up you pass the info around, I would be happy to throw something in the kitty to improve your family's holidays.
Be well, and hold on to each other. Your family is THE most important thing.
Best wishes from New Orleans!

So sorry to hear this. Imagine the overwhelming sense of loss will continue for a while. Good to know the family all escaped unharmed, and the Techsmith staff is there to be supportive in person.

Tony - glad you and your family are still ok and together and can help eachother through this. The photo of the pirate ship toy above really hit home - my 8 yr old son has the same ship. I'll be praying for you guys as you go through this challanging time. Hopefully, as you begin to pick up the pieces from this horrible tragedy, you will find some good things that come out of this (new house, new friendships, etc). -jeff

I'm so sorry to hear about that loss so shortly before Christmas. But I'm glad to learn that all of you are in good health. That's most important, everything else can be replaced. My thoughts are with you!
