Engaging Students in the Classroom with Multimedia

What do you get when you put together: PowerPoint slides, a TabletPC, Camtasia Studio, a wireless microphone and some biology?! One of the coolest classrooms around! You remember Kelly Carrier, right? He's a high school biology teacher at my alma mater, Okemos High School in Michigan.
Kelly is doing amazing things in his classroom with technology and his students love it! Check out an article written about Kelly in THE Journal here.
Do you think you would have gotten a better grade if your biology teacher had recorded their lectures? What cool uses of technology have you seen in the classroom lately?
Congrats, Kelly!

That is really cool. I wish I had HS teachers like that when I was in school. Perhaps posting lectures works when students have to be there. I've not had as good an experience posting lectures in college. I tried it using OneNote thinking students could annotate the lecture if it was right there in front of them as we discussed the topics. What really happened is students stopped showing up to class. Their test scores dropped. And of course they *expected* the extra effort on my part forever. Managing student expectations when you raise the bar can be a challenge. Today, I use Camtasia 5 to demonstrate how to do part of a homework assignment. Just enough to get the student started and headed in the right direction.
