Overdue Screencast with Kathy Jacobs about OneNote
Posted on Friday December 15, 2006 by Betsy Weber
Way back in September (yes, I'm behind), at PowerPoint Live, Kathy Jacobs sat down with me to show me what's new with OneNote 2007, one of my favorite programs.
Not only is Kathy a PowerPoint MVP, but she is also a OneNote MVP. She's the expert and has even written a book about OneNote.
OneNote is a quick way for me to take, share and organize notes. I usually draft my blog posts, plan projects and write longer emails in it. And, it has a great option for searching all of your notes so you can easily find them. I love love love OneNote! Did I mention that I love OneNote?! I also love that OneNote autosaves your content. As soon as you type it, OneNote saves it so you never have to worry about losing your data if your computer crashes. I use it all the time and often use it instead of Word.
Click the screenshot below to start the screencast. It runs just under 10 minutes. Kathy shows me the new features and some tricks in the new version of OneNote 2007. We recorded this screencast in an uncontrolled environment so we did not have the ideal recording conditions between the audio and lighting, but it should be tolerable.
If you'd like to try out OneNote 2007, you can visit here to give it a try.
Any requests for the next screencast?

After watching this nice video, I thoughtto myself, would it not be handy to be able to "move" the pip since there were some operations that were being carried out behind the video?
the move could be the default's minimize, maximise etc...

Oops - our bad. We should have done moved it or turned it off in our editing.
There's a great video all about PiP here: http://video.techsmith.com/blog/screencasts/tss/dv/30d30d/30_Demos_in_30_Days.html

Although I have a fast DSL connection and normally playback works fine (f.e. the mentioned PiP demo comes perfect) this OneNote cast conmes pretty bad - it's really stuttering.
Therfore: Would thre be a possibility to downlod the file?
TIA

I, too, had the screencast finally seem to collapse -- come to a halt. I couldn't tell if it was replenishing the buffer, or just hung urretrievably. I wondered if your interface allows me to pause the video so the buffer can catch up... Several questions... so I suggest a primer easily accessible about these usability questions. There are only three FAQ's in the TechSmith database about this interesting service. Not enough.
Neat service. I want to use this in my upper-elementary classroom so student groups can teach others about key parts of the curriculum. Can you blog about this kind of use?
For example, what are the threshold requirements for bandwidth or other technical elements that affect quality?
I look forward to finishing the video cast, as I have tried three times but it always stops.

Today, 1 January, the screencast came through perfectly! ...so my experience was probably clogged arteries throughout the Internet...
I am exploring the education pages on the site. Great possibilities!

Great tip, and thanks for the reintroduction. I did not spend enough time with OneNote 2003, but I downloaded the new version and am starting 2007 with this tool for all of my scraps of paper, thoughts, notes, web discoveries, etc. It is great to have one place to store all of this and then be able to search and find it. The integration with Outlook is very nice, and I look forward to playing with it more. Nice suggestion!

I get the message stating either I need Javascript enabled in my browser or the latest version of Flash installed.
Both are true and I am running IE7?
I would love to see this content.
Can anyone help?
