And now a very special blog post...Happy 15th Anniversary SnagIt!
Posted on Monday February 6, 2006 by Betsy Weber
What were you doing 15 years ago? Thankfully while I was in high school getting into trouble, TechSmith was working on SnagIt.
Can you believe it - SnagIt turns 15 this year!

To celebrate, I asked one of the original programmers on SnagIt, Dewey Hou (now Director of Product Development), and the SnagIt Product Manager, Tony Dunckel, to make a screencast about the history of SnagIt. Click the screenshot below to watch it. The screencast is a little over 12 minutes long.
We created a commemorative t-shirt so you can celebrate the 15th anniversary all year long! I took some pics of people around the office wearing it - some particularly funny.
Here's Bill Hamilton, our president and Dewey Hou, Director of Product Development:

Here's a marketing pyramid made up of Assistant SnagIt Product Manager Jessica Boyle (left), Director of Marketing Jody Burgess, and perched on top is Marketing Assistant Jessie Ho:

Here's a pic of the SnagIt Product Manager Tony Dunckel and the Lead SnagIt Developer Paul Middlin:

And, finally, Jen Middlin, Public Relations Manager, Paul Middlin, Lead SnagIt Developer (Jen's husband) and the next SnagIt user, Baby Middlin, who is a week overdue at this point. You're seeing it right - that is definitely NOT a stethoscope!

See more pics in our Flickr Gallery here.
The first 10 people to post in the comments about why they love SnagIt will get a SnagIt 15th anniversary t-shirt free! Then, make sure you e-mail me with your name, mailing address and t-shirt size. (I can't get your e-mail from the comments.) Extra points for a video!
Also, if you win or purchase a SnagIt t-shirt, please e-mail a picture of yourself wearing it - we'll include it in this Flickr photo gallery of customers in their shirts. Bonus points for exotic locations and celebrity impersonators in the background!
What are you going to do to celebrate?

Remember to email me (visuallounge@techsmith.com) your mailing address and t-shirt size if you're one of the first 10 comments about why you love SnagIt! Thanks!

The reason I like SnagIt is the simplicity of using the tool despite the complexity of the functionality provided.
My favorite feature is the "highlighting". I use this all the time in the Help files I create, the books I have written, and the articles I have published.
I won't leave home without it.

Betsy,
Say a big Hello! to your next SnagIt user, Baby Middlin, as soon as she arrives.
BTW, will you ship the T-Shirt to an international address :)

Every blogger needs SnagIt. Very often you need
a graphic to enhance your post. SnagIt adds the benefit of visualizing the post. I used SnagIt to capture a map I created in one of my posts
(See link)
SnagIt is to a blogger as an electric drill is to a carpenter

This feature can lead to pdf ebooks with the Flash-enhanced graphics. A picture is worth a thousand words - but only if you understand the picture.

Ease of use is the key to SnagIt's success. I managed to fire off over 300 screenshots for my book in just two days. I think that says it all.
cheers, daniel

SnagIt is the versatile brain behind every screenshot that appears on my blog.
SnagIt lets me easily download sliced graphics from websites which are otherwise impossible to copy.

My congratulations on your 15th anniversary. It's been quite a ride.
SnagIt happens to be my favorite capture utility because, as an MS MVP, it makes so easy to help people with their PC problems. Capture a screen, modify it, FTP to my site, and link it to the web forum. With very little effort I can answer a question with a screenshot.
Continued success for the next 15 years.

15 years... it'd be interesting (vaguely) to determine how many other apps are still under active development, still releasing significant new versions (avg=2 year intervals) for 15 years (how to app years compare to dog years?).
There are the office-type apps, industry specific (GIS, autocad, others?), Adobe stuff, others (what would a google search on "Version 10" find?). If you discovered 100 (or even 1,000) older apps, what percentage of the total number of apps is this?
Congrats.

End users love pictures and snagit produces the best images. Prior to snagit, I was tortured using alt-print scrn and pasting things into paint, altering them, and what paint spit out was well, less than okay a lot of the time. This is much easier and faster.
Between this and camtasia studio, providing visual training to my gen pop has never been easier.
