What is on your wishlist?

At TechSmith we have a high commitment to listening to our customers. Our best features are built on the feedback from our users like you!

So, if we could add a feature or make a change to SnagIt, Camtasia Studio or Morae for you, what would it be? Share with us and others in the comments sections of this post.

Phil Parr :

I'd love a feature that cleared the Clip Bin of any files not currently being used in the time line. Of course this would merely mask some of my disorganization :)

Phil,

great request. We'll add it to the to-do list. Any other suggestions?

It would be great if CS provided an easy way (for both the author and the viewer) to offer two audio tracks, which would have a different language spoken on each track. The obvious use would be choosing which language for the "training" delivered by Camtasia. BUT, there might also be some interesting "language-learning" applications.

I've sometimes wondered if there could be a quick hack using the "stereo" audio, with different languages on the left/right channels, but haven't tried that yet.

The power of screencast training is great, and the flexibility of multiple audio tracks would make it even more useful.

Todd Rothermel :

A few things for the wishlist:

1.) Multiple audio tracks
2.) Audio transitions for smooth sound transition between audio clips
3.) Picture in Picture - add a small area where PIP avi is running on top of the main video with audio controls to switch audio from one avi to the other during editing – no need for audio swap during playback by the client
4.) When using multiple video clips and transition effects, preview performance is poor, perhaps a "pre-rendering" feature to preview without sync issues between the audio track and transition effects.
5.) Simple video contrast/brightness controls.
6.) Enable video to be rotated

That's it for now, great product!

It would be nice if Camtasia Studio supported the Speex http://www.speex.org/ audio codec.

"Speex is an Open Source/Free Software patent-free audio compression format designed for speech. The Speex Project aims to lower the barrier of entry for voice applications by providing a free alternative to expensive proprietary speech codecs. Moreover, Speex is well-adapted to Internet applications and provides useful features that are not present in most other codecs. Finally, Speex is part of the GNU Project and is available under the Xiph.org variant of the BSD license.

Speex is based on CELP and is designed to compress voice at bitrates ranging from 2 to 44 kbps. Some of Speex’s features include:

Narrowband (8 kHz), wideband (16 kHz), and ultra-wideband (32 kHz) compression in the same bitstream
Intensity stereo encoding
Packet loss concealment
Variable bitrate operation (VBR)
Voice Activity Detection (VAD)
Discontinuous Transmission (DTX)
In-progress fixed-point port
Note that Speex has a number of features that aren’t in other codecs such as intensity stereo encoding, integration of multiple sampling rates in the same bitstream, and a VBR mode; see our comparison page for more.

The quality is really good. Adding this would make better sounding projects with Camtasia Studio. With the added benefit of smaller file sizes.

Is it possible to add additional transitions into Camtasia? PowerPoint has quite a few that would be great in your product (diamond, etc.).
