We all still have a lot to learn about PowerPoint

Posted on Wednesday September 28, 2005 by Betsy Weber

Greetings from the show floor at PowerPoint Live! I'm having a great time in sunny San Diego.

I was able to get a few minutes with PowerPoint MVP and author Kathy Jacobs, and she sat down with me to do a screencast on the show floor. We managed to find a quiet corner in the conference room, I hooked her up with a microphone, set up my Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 webcam, and launched Camtasia Studio for a quick video.

In this screencast, Kathy shares with me her top three tips for PowerPoint Users. See how much I don't know . . . yet! Click the screenshot to launch the video.

I'm learning a lot at the show, but I have severe PowerPoint shame after seeing the PowerPoint presentations done by the MVPs. They trulyare works of art.

Judd Knight :

That Powerpoint presentation was great!. I actually learned some helpful tips on what I need to do before I start PowerPoint and also what settings I need to adjust before I start using the program.

Ken Peters :

Good presentation with respect to content but your audio has too much echo. Use a better room with more sound absorbing treatment.

A. Teeter :

Good content. Thanks. Audio was not great though. When talking about background printing, you mentioned an operating system "Windows 97"...no such thing.

Ken Campbell :

When Kathy recommends changes in our setup on various menus, the menus are too small to read.Have them come up in a larger size so they are readable.

Excellent tips. Immediately yuseful for me. I enlarged the video to 200% and with my wireless still had a great picture. Audio was clear enough to understand it from my laptop-build-in speakers.

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry about the audio and light quality. We did the best we could on the conference floor.

Another PowerPoint MVP, Steve Rindsberg, has all the tips Kathy
gave in the screencast plus some additional ones on his website. You
can see them on this page: http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00034.htm

Thanks for watching!
