Welcome!

Posted on Thursday August 25, 2005 by Betsy Weber

Welcome to the TechSmith blog, The Visual Lounge. I'm glad you're here!

This is your place to see what goes on at TechSmith behind the scenes and to share ideas with us and with each other. Many of you will have the opportunity to share those ideas visually. Whether it's a screenshot, a screencast, or a video instruction, we hope to see, hear, watch, listen, experience and learn together... After all, this is The Visual Lounge.

A little about my background...

I've been with TechSmith since 2000. I've lived in the Lansing, Michigan area most of my life, and I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in marketing and logistics management.

I came to TechSmith with a background in corporate software training, and I also worked at a dot bomb. I've held various positions at TechSmith ranging from product management to training manager. In my current role as Chief Evangelist, I head up the company's evangelism program where I collaborate with customers, industry experts, and technologists all over the world.

If there's anything I can help you with, feel free to contact me!

Betsy,
I am ecstatic to be the first comment to congratulate and welcome you to the blogging world! I use your SnagIt and Camtasia tools each day and would truly be lost without them. Visual communication conveys things much faster than text and can save many emails or misunderstandings.

Please tell your team to keep up the great work!

Sincerely

Way to go Betsy - I knew you'd get a blog going. This will a terrific resource and, I suspect, a great way to lern even more ways SnagIt and Camtasia users are pushing the envelope with TechSmith products!

I'll be sure to post a notice on my blogs to let my readers know you're live.

Hello,
I want to encourage your blog so here I am adding a comment. This is such a great handy program. I wish I knew everything it does. Lots of fancy stuff (like annotations) is easy but I've never figured out what the editor is for? Too complicated for me.
Carry on with the good stuff you do.

Hi Betsy--

Hey, congrats on the birth of this blog (with pictures and all... what's next, movies?)

Considering that Techsmith has *millions* of customers, this blog will get enough readership if .000001% notice it, but I'm curious what strategies you all have for getting the word out, to build the numbers of readers/commentors up to a critical mass.

Another question (or comment) deals with your "discovery" of great sites which use Snag, Camtasia, and Morae in big ways, and are talking about their applications. I know that you can't have a "Blogs we're reading" that's a mile long, but you might discover lots of interesting stuff with a discussion of "good sites we use" that asks for reader comments.

Again, good luck with the Lounge.

Sometime back, I had posted an article on my website on "Camtasia Studio 3.0" - It got quite a good amount of traffic from blogs.techsmith.com though I couldn't connect to that domain.

So my guess i that Techsmith had blogs since a long time but they only decided to make them public now.

Just my 0.02 cents.

I am really excited about your new blog and will make it one of my regular stops. I use Camtasia Studio almost every day to create tutorials for my students. I don't know what I'd do with this amazing tool. Looking forward to learning and sharing.

First off, I want to thank everyone for the kind comments! I'm really excited about the blog and I hope it will generate many conversations.

Amit, I did have an internal blog at TechSmith that I was using as a prototype for our external blog. I posted on the internal blog about your great Screencasting post to share with the company so that must have been where you saw the traffic from.

Thanks for stopping by The Visual Lounge!

Congrats on this new Blog-Thingy. Hope it goes the way you want it to.

I have a suggestion for the site. It's a little unclear when Techsmith updates something sometimes. From minor releases of SnagIt to the freebies you offer like Menu Templates. It would be nice if there was a date next to the downloads telling when they were updated.

Hi Betsy, great to see you hear. I just wrote an email to the edu-group about cooperation. Could you also dive into this? I want to start screencasting for my blog. Lots of success!

Congrats on your blog. I have a question about snagit and camtasia.I want to record my screen while trading(that's what I do for a living),is this possible with either product?Looks to me like camtasia would do it,how many windows will it record at a time, say for example I have 10 different windows I want to record all at once, will it do that? I just ran across the website and am developing an interest in your product. Thanks in advance.

Todd C. Peet :

I was wondering if TechSmith ever considered adding a teleprompter feature to Camtasia? I think that would make that product rise above all the other competitors. We here find it to be easier to do our training videos with Camtasia and another product that offers the teleprompter feature.

Kindest Regards,
Todd
